The planned liberalization would have far-reaching consequences for thousands of farmers, but above all for millions of consumers in the European Union. In future, products derived from genetically modified plants would no longer be specially labeled. The lack of labeling would make it impossible in future to trace where genetic engineering has been used. In addition, deregulation would mean that genetically modified plants could also be cultivated in Europe without the previously mandatory risk assessment and labeling."
